Is back in Switzerland since October 2009... and life has changed

Kathmandu can be heaven

Finally I recovered from my 3 days in bed after having a drink with ice cubes made with bad water. Yesterday we went to The Himalayan Blues Festival held in the Garden of Dreams (the nicest place you can find in Kathmandu) 5 minutes from our Hotel. We went there with some friends we met in Kathmandu, quite early to be sure to enter.Read more »

Water in Kathmandu

For sure, you can’t drink the water from the tap. And on some of the water bottle you can find this nice remark about the quality of water:
Thirst Pi is 100% Natural Spring Mineral Water. Untouched by human hands, water from the only In-House Natural Spring Source in Nepal, is automatically filled into Food grade, crystal clear Pet Bottles that are manufactured in our own In-House, latest, state of the art Pet bottle making plant. The water is automatically ozonated and there are no additives or chemicals used in the process.

Tibet or do you have a plan B guys?

We wanted to go in the Kangshung valley, next to the Everest, to make an expedition to traverse 2 passes: the Karpo La, and the Lhapka La. The route would start from Kharta, passing a pass somewhere at 5000m to join the Kangshung valley. From there we would walk up to some lakes on the right side of the valley at 5000m. Above the lakes, you can find the Karpo La pass (~6200m), and after walking on Kharta glacier, we would reach the Lhapka La pass (~6700m). On the other side of the pass, there is the Tibetan Everest advanced base camp.Read more »

Kathmandu

Monday morning, I woke up still sick in London to get early to the airport. You don't want to miss your first flight on a world round trip! As I was afraid of, with my 44kg of luggage, not mentioning my ski backpack as my hand-luggage (my cousin was standing away with a plastic bag and my camera in one hand and in the other the big down jacket), the women at the counter told me that I was allowed to have up to 30kg only, and 7kg for the hand-baggage... Guest my face ;-) I started complaining since the travel agency which sold me the ticket told me that I could have 2 pieces of 20kg each.Read more »

Geneva airport or how the hell am I going to bring all my gears

Normally, you’re doing your luggage at least the night before you’re leaving. Well I had everything on the floor in my living room, but nothing packed on Saturday morning. I was waiting to get the dry food which came with Kimberly who was driving me to the airport. The box was huge, and I had to get all of those food bags somehow in my backpack. I filled up to the top my backpack but there were still about 10 left. My backpack was already weighing more than I was allowed on my Easyjet flight.Read more »

Why am I doing this trip

That's the usual question you will get when you're leaving for a RWT as well as your destinations of course ;-) It's not to "find myself", neither "to look for a new goal in life"... None of these theoretical ideas. It's just because I think that it's the right time before being involved too much in my work and also because since my expedition in Argentina, to the Mercedario, I started to dream again about long ... long ... long vacations. And also because I wanted to do something big for special birthday this year...Read more »
